How to Spend 48 Hours in the Scenic Rim

It’s no secret that Brisbane has some fantastic weekend-away options – whether you go north, south, east or west, there’s an adventure to be had. One of our favourite weekends away is down to the Scenic Rim. In just over an hour, you’re transported from the urban sprawl of Brisbane to the lush, green, tropical oasis of Mount Tamborine and surrounds.

Friday Afternoon

Leave the city and head down the Pacific Highway towards Tamborine Mountain. Once you turn off the highway and head towards the Mount Tamborine Township, you’ve got a few options. For those wanting a nice, relaxing afternoon, we suggest the Mount Tamborine Sky Walk. Alternatively, if you’re after a thrill, you can’t miss the Tree Top Challenge – a zip line and high ropes course in the rainforest.

Friday Evening

Continue into town and enjoy the delicious cuisine at the Three Little Pigs. This modern Australian restaurant is one we love!

There are plenty of fantastic accommodation options on the Mountain and surrounds, but we love the Sea View Farm Retreat. The three intimate cabins provide the utmost privacy, and the views down on the Gold Coast and surrounds are unbeatable. Breakfast hampers are included, and the accommodations are just stunning.

Saturday Morning

The Scenic Rim has a variety of hiking options, and they’re perfect for the cooler weather. For those chasing an easy walk, we recommend the gorgeous Curtis Falls walk in the Joalah section of the Tamborine National Park. If you are lucky, you might spot the elusive platypus. For those wanting something a little more challenging, the Jenyns circuit in the Palm Grove section of the park provides excellent views and soaks up the lush rainforest surrounds.

Saturday Afternoon

Head into the Mount Tamborine township after your morning walk and grab some lunch. We suggest the Tamborine Diner for a yummy burger to replenish your energy! Spend the afternoon exploring the very walkable town. Visit the fudge shop, Witches Chase Cheese Shop and other quirky stores for provisions to make an afternoon cheese board to enjoy back at your accommodation.

Saturday Evening

We suggest eating in tonight! Perhaps you’re full from the cheese & wine you picked up in town earlier in the day, but if not, there are some great take away options so you can sit and enjoy the peace and quiet of the bush, and those spectacular views.

Sunday Morning

Take it easy this morning and enjoy your breakfast hamper. If you’re visiting on the second Sunday of the month, we suggest visiting the Mount Tamborine markets for some delicious snacks and cute handicrafts. Alternatively, the Mount Tamborine Golf Club is across the road from the Sea View Farm Retreat if you fancy a few holes.

Head down to Canungra for a look around. There are plenty of cute cafes, restaurants and little shops to pique your interest. We recommend grabbing morning tea at the Outpost Cafe.

Sunday Afternoon

Make sure you visit the Albert River wines on Sunday afternoon! They’ve got a restaurant and cellar door on their expansive grounds, so we recommend stopping for lunch for a delicious meal and perhaps some live music if you’re lucky. Take the scenic drive back to the city via the backroads, all rested and relaxed from your weekend!
