Trip Overview

Confronting, climactic, and revered by millions of Hindus, Varanasi is one of India’s most defining experiences. Towering temples and smoldering ghats (riverside steps) compose an eerie and enigmatic riverside, local residents wash their garments in the Ganges waters alongside the atoning faithful, and Hindu holy men offer up their prayers amidst the sporadic cheers erupting from makeshift cricket tournaments playing out across the boardwalks.

Itinerary

Day 1: Varanasi

Your Independent Experience starts today in Varanasi with an arrival transfer.
Meet your guide at your accommodation and get some tips on how to spend your first day exploring and the best place for dinner.

Day 2: Varanasi

Set off by cycle rickshaw to visit the oldest part of the city, bustling with tourists and priests, and see different rituals being performed. Wander through the Old City with its maze of narrow alleyways packed full of small shops and stalls. See pilgrims bathing and performing rituals and ceremonies unchanged for hundreds of years; temples full of bell chimes and the smell of incense; the dhobi wallahs and the burning ghats. Spend the evening soaking up the magical atmosphere of a candle flower ceremony, on a Ganges River cruise as the sun sets.

Day 3: Varanasi

Start early with a sunrise boat ride on the Ganges, passing the many ghats and temples along the river.
After the boat ride we transfer back to the hotel to freshen up and have breakfast.
Your tour ends today in Varanasi after breakfast.
There are no activities planned until your included departure transfer to the airport or train station.
Additional accommodation is available to extend your stay or you may like to add on another of our Independent Experiences or Urban Adventures in India.
