2026 marks the 50th anniversary of Outback Camel Company, Australia’s original desert camel trekking enterprise, first crossing the Simpson Desert in 1976. The ethos remains: simplicity, a steady pace, respect for Country, and travelling in a way that lets the landscape set the tone.
All treks and expeditions take place in the Simpson Desert. There are no formed trails, journeys begin where vehicle tracks end, crossing red dunes, inland creek systems, claypans and gibber flats. Supported by pack camels, we travel lightly, carrying supplies without vehicles and leaving minimal trace. This is Desert Bushwalking, purposeful walking, simple camps, and a close connection to remote desert country.
Australian Desert Expeditions is a not for profit Registered Scientific Organisation running scientific and ecological surveys on foot with pack camels. In partnership with Indigenous Australians, universities and conservation and land management organisations, these expeditions access isolated areas and contribute to research in under surveyed desert environments.
