In many terms these parts of the world are still undiscovered. We are greeted by towering mountain chains, calving glaciers, icebergs of all shapes and crystal-clear waters. The nutritious waters provide feeding ground for both humpbacks and fin whales and if lucky we will encounter these giants of the sea. We also get unique insight into the Inuit culture, their way of life, traditional practices, and cultural heritage. This natural wonder of East Greenland is so much more than a destination, it’s a true experience of a lifetime!

M/S Balto is a high-ice-class Finnish-built vessel redesigned to deliver an intimate polar experience for just 12 guests. Its seven cabins are large by expedition standards, each with private facilities and lower beds, ranging from an expansive Owner’s Cabin with six windows to well-appointed twin, double and single options. Interior spaces are finished with rich timber panelling and traditional detailing, including a saloon, bar, library, and a dedicated dining room. A small sauna, multiple viewing decks and an open bridge reinforce the ship’s focus on comfort, atmosphere and direct engagement with the polar environment.
Its size and ice capability allow access deep into fjord systems, secluded anchorages and small settlements where larger vessels cannot operate. With two Zodiacs, two guides and a small passenger cohort, shore time is maximised and itineraries remain flexible, adapting to conditions and wildlife opportunities. The result is a quieter, lower-impact and more immersive approach to Greenland’s wilderness, offering a level of proximity, silence and responsiveness that is not achievable on conventional expedition ships.
