This trip takes you to the best of the hidden treasures of the Wild West of Tasmania.

Immerse yourself in the raw beauty and magical rainforest surrounds of the The Tarkine. Spend 3 nights at the unique base of Tiger Ridge Camp immersed in this 65 million year old rainforest. The Tarkine is a hidden gem, an untouched paradise.

This trip combines with cruising the iconic Gordon River, stepping back in history on a breathtaking West Coast Wilderness Train journey, before topping it off with a visit to Cradle Mountain, Nelson Falls, Lake St Clair and a scenic drive through the Derwent Valley. There will also be a visit to one of Tasmania’s premier wine regions to sample some of Tassie’s best wine and local produce.

Day 1

Arrive at Tarkine

This morning you will be collected from your Launceston accommodation and transferred into the vast quiet of the Tarkine. There is a stop enroute for morning tea and an introductory briefing, before a short walk into your rainforest home at Tiger Ridge Camp. Once at camp it is all about settling in and enjoying the ambience of this serene location. By the end of the day with the mix of fine Tassie food, fire and new friends, you will find yourself transfixed by this tranquil environment. Hike: 2kms (LD)

Day 2

Rainforest Walk

Begin to understand the ancient relationships of a rainforest landscape with a day of total forest immersion. Your walk today, focuses on the beautiful forests to the east of Tiger Ridge. Your guides will introduce you to the subtleties of the rainforest, its complex web of self-perpetuating life. You will begin to feel as though you have stepped back in time, tens of thousands of years. After another relaxing dinner you will have the opportunity to venture out with headtorches to discover what happens in the mysterious Tarkine night. Hike: 5kms (BLD)

Day 3

Huskisson River

After starting the day with your favourite morning beverage on the balcony, it’s time to head down to the Huskisson River. After lunch you meander in the valley for a time before making your way home to Tiger Ridge to relax and refresh for dinner. After another amazing meal of Tassie produce you settle in around the fire for your last night in this amazing wilderness. Hike: 7kms (BLD)

Day 4

Waratah & Cradle Mountain

Take in the incredible rainforest on your last morning as we depart on a short walk out of the wilderness. There is one last stop before the journey ends in the small scenic town of Waratah. There is time to explore and enjoy what this remote, historical village has to offer. After lunch, you will be transferred to your accommodation in the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain – St Clair National Park. Hike: 2kms (BL)

Day 5

Queenstown & Strahan

After a special breakfast hamper in your room, it’s a relaxing scenic drive to Queenstown where you step back in time and take a breathtaking train journey deep into the heritage of Tasmanian wilderness. Marvel at nature and the stories of resilience and triumph over rugged terrain, and adversity. Arrive in Strahan where your afternoon is free to explore the quirky, harbour side town. In the early evening there is an opportunity to attend the local performance of ‘The Ship That Never Was’. (Optional) Overnight Strahan (B)

Day 6

Catamaran Cruise

This morning board a newly designed, Tasmanian-built catamaran for a cruise in the world’s last great temperate rainforest deep within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Sail in the comfort of Gold seating before stepping ashore Sarah Island to see some of Australia’s oldest convict ruins. A delicious gourmet lunch featuring local Tasmania produce is included. Day 7

Nelson Falls, Mt Arrowsmith & Tarraleah

Say goodbye to Strahan and head east, stopping at Nelson Falls. Travel through picturesque valleys and mountains, pristine forests and cross wild rivers before winding your way up to Mt Arrowsmith. After lunch there is a guided experience through The Wall before arriving at the beautiful old hydro township of Tarraleah for the night. Overnight Tarraleah (BLD)

Day 8

Russell Falls, Coal River Valley, Richmond & Hobart

Commence the day with a scenic drive into the Derwent Valley to visit the 3-tiered Russell Falls in Mt Field National Park. From here, meander into the Coal River Valley, one of Tasmania’s premier wine regions to sample some of the best wines and local produce. After a stroll through the beautiful township of Richmond with its famous Bridge, finish the day in Hobart with a jaunt to the summit of Mt Wellington enroute. Overnight Hobart (BL)

Day 9

Tour Ends

The Wild West Tour comes to an end today. There’s plenty more to see on this amazing island, so please let us know if you’d like to stay on and explore further!
