Leanne’s pick: The Saltwater people – if this video doesn’t move you… you might be lost.
“The spirit of the land will look inside you… if we can awaken the soul of that person, then that person is alive on our land.” Marcus Lacey, of Nyinyikay.
Working in partnership with the Yolngu people, this new community-based expedition in the East Arnhem Land region of Australia’s Northern Territory visits remote coastal communities such as Nyinyikay, Bremer Island and Nhulunbuy – the ancient culture of the Saltwater people.
Staying as guests of the Yolngu, travellers will get the chance to live a life not dictated to by an itinerary, clock and social media. Camp with Traditional Owners, hear some of the stories that are the lifeblood of the culture, learn how to hunt, fish, and learn about the Dhuwa and Yirritja way of life, which will challenge many of us that live in westernised society.
Watch this amazing video (to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, please be warned that it may contain images and voices of deceased people), then call, drop in or email Leanne who loves this amazing experience.
