Seven white Christmas destinations for 2017

We know there’s no chance of a white Christmas in our beloved Australia, but for those who want to experience some of the Christmas card images for themselves, here’s our seven favourite escapes for this year:

Christmas carols in Salzburg

The smells of gluhwein, roasted chestnuts, and cinnamon brushed baked apples waft through the Salzburg marketplace, while the sounds of traditional choirs fill the air.

Christmas markets in Vienna

Vienna’s prettiest squares transform into magical Christmas markets, every bit as ornamental as its architecture.

Be awe-inspired by tonnes of hand-crafted toys, candles and paintings on offer.

Budapest in lights

Budapest really embraces the Christmas spirit; take a walk through the streets to find every street, tree and market lit up in lights.

Sample unique local food and drink, and indulge in the warm glow of a Hungarian Christmas.

Memorable Munich

Munich’s Christmas markets are probably the most famous of them all with their authentic Bavarian food, ale and music.

Try the large Christmas Market around Marienplatz, the magical Christmas village in the Residenz, or the medieval market on Wittelsbacherplatz – stay a while and enjoy the mulled wine, culinary delicacies and traditional stands.

Christmas in Switzerland’s Grindelwald

Imagine spending Christmas in the first class Romantik Hotel Schweizerhof, in snowy Grindelwald, with a Christmas Eve ride on a horse drawn carriage.

Be wowed by the 50ft-tall Christmas tree in Zurich; enjoy the excellent Christmas markets of Montreux, or brace for an exhilarating Alpine ride on the Golden Pass train.

The hotel offers Christmas Eve and day themed dinners on this adventure.

A Medieval Bohemian Czech Republic Christmas

Try a truly festive Christmas in the heart of medieval Cesky Krumlov.

You can stay in a beautifully restored 500-year-old hotel, enjoy the romantic Christmas Markets of Rothenburg, Nurnberg, Prague and Vienna; and explore the exquisite Schönbrunn Palace.

The cobble stoned streets of Rothenburg lead to the most romantic of all Christmas Markets and you can stay in the city of ‘Good King Wenceslas’ – Prague.

Canyon Lights & Festive Sights – Christmas in Vancouver, Victoria and the Canadian Rockies

Be dazzled by the lights display at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, explore Butchart Gardens in Victoria as they come alive with a magical holiday lights display, and eat your way through the world-famous Public Market on a Granville Island Market tour.

Optional extra, add this: where better to spend a Canadian Christmas than at the ‘Castle in the Rockies’ – the Fairmont Banff Springs, including a very family friendly Christmas Day Buffet, Christmas Service and Wilderness Walk. With the stunning winter scenery, this is truly a white Christmas.
