Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, is a colourful, vibrant city and a favoured destination of travellers from all over the world. It is an exciting mix of culture, religion, people and places that leaves the traveller with wonderful memories.
Both ancient and modern, Kathmandu is a photographer’s paradise with opportunities to capture the panoramic expanse of the Kathmandu valley, bustling city streets, produce markets, religious landmarks and the daily life of the people who live there.
Damian Caniglia, in conjunction with Back Track Adventures has developed a travel and street photography workshop for keen amateur photographers who wish to expand their image library while learning from a professional. Now you can take the ultimate photography workshop trip to Kathmandu.
With five days of full access to many areas of Kathmandu, there is ample opportunity to not only learn and improve your photography, but see and experience Kathmandu in depth. The Kathmandu Photography Workshop includes daily feedback, discussion and critique of your images. You can devote your time to taking images while receiving full support and help along the way.
This is the ideal forum to explore travel photography in this amazing city. The workshop is strictly limited to eight photographers and is timed to allow you to take advantage of additional activities for which Nepal is famous such as trekking in the Himalaya, mountain biking or viewing the wildlife at Chitwan National Park.
November is an ideal time of year to be in Nepal. The Kathmandu Photography Workshop is structured to give you the ideal setting and opportunity to improve all aspects of your photography. At the same time, you’ll experience much of what Kathmandu has to offer – religious ceremonies, rural life, artisans plying their trade and people going about their daily lives.
In addition to Damian Caniglia as facilitator and instructor, The Kathmandu Photography Workshop involves the partnership of Nepalese office staff, tour guides and drivers. You’ll be delighted with the friendly, cheerful nature of your hosts and your interaction with them will be a major highlight of your time in Kathmandu.
For keen photographers, group travel can have its drawbacks; it may be difficult to find the time to shoot at the best time of day in the best locations, and there may be cultural and privacy considerations when photographing local people. With Damian’s experience and local guided support, you are able to be in the best position while maintaining a level of respect. Damian is also on hand to help with any technical questions as well as guidance with the visual communication aspects of your image making. If you’re ready to take the next step with your passion for photography, join the Kathmandu Photography Workshop and you’ll be rewarded many times over.

One-on-one tuition has become increasingly popular as enthusiasts turn hobbies into passions and careers. Typically, the amount of information that can be covered in a one-on-one session rivals that of a three-day workshop. It also allows for areas of concern or interest to be revisited, and allows Damian to work with you at your pace. Plus you can ask questions that you might not feel comfortable asking in a group if you are unsure of your skills or the standard of the group.
The workshops offer focused learning on practical steps to improve your understanding of photography, both from a technical and creative perspective. With experience shooting on all seven continents, and a diverse cross section of environments, Damian is able to offer first-hand knowledge on how to best develop your image making.
The ‘start-to-finish’ practical approach to the workshops will provide you with skills that can be applied no matter where you are travelling and find yourself taking photos.
