- GOLDEN TEMPLE & HILL STATION EXPERIENCE
- THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE IN BRIEF
Golden Temple & Hill Station
This journey visits three varied and interesting places – Amritsar, McLeod Ganj and Andretta.
Amritsar is home to the Golden Temple and prides itself on its fabulous Punjabi cuisine. A comparatively small Indian city, it has a complex history of dissent against British rule and a profoundly important role in Sikh traditions. The Golden Temple alone is worth a trip to Amritsar and the delicious food found throughout the city is a tasty plus. When not at the Golden Temple, head to the Wagah Border to witness the ceremonial ‘Closing of the Border’ between India and Pakistan every evening or explore the gardens scattered around the city. Don’t forget to have a lassi (yogurt drink), no trip to Punjab is complete without one.
McLeod Ganj sits high on a mountain towering over the Indian plains. Home to the Tibetan government in exile since the Dalai Lama fled to India in 1959. It houses numerous monasteries and nunneries, and attracts visitors from all over the world interested in Buddhist and Tibetan studies. This fusion of people makes McLeod Ganj an eclectic melting pot for the world. Cafes serving Korean, Japanese, Israeli, and Indian food all crowd together and handicrafts from Kashmir line the streets. Behind you, the peaks of the Himalayas tower upwards. Take a walk through a pine forest, spend some time at the Tibet museum, and meditate at his Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Temple; no matter your holiday preference, McLeod Ganj has a wide range of offerings to fit your interests.
Andretta is a quaint artisan town, nestled along the foothills of the Himalayas. It is famous for its pottery (which you can try your hand at), visit the local art gallery of an internationally famous artist, Sobha Singh. This is a place where you can take a few days to relax and unwind before you continue your journey.

The Golden Triangle in brief
This iconic journey visits three famous locations; Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.
Delhi is the capital city of India and offers a range of dramatic juxtapositions, part of what makes this city so fascinating. From the bustling bazaars of Delhi’s old city, to the wide, shaded avenues of Lutyen’s Delhi, the city is alive with arts and culture, history, and wonderful food from across India and the world.
Agra is the former capital of the Mughal empire and home to many UNESCO World Heritage sites. This relatively small town is packed with history; testament to the power and wealth of the Mughal reign in India. Home to the world famous Taj Mahal, Agra is also home to a number of lesser known, but still magnificent, medieval forts and citadels including the Red Fort and the nearby abandoded city of Fatehpur Sikri.
Jaipur, commonly known as the Pink City, is the quintessential North India experience. A colourful barrage of fabric, architecture, and spices, Jaipur is home to spectacular Rajput palaces, ornate museums, and world renowned block print fabric. You’ll wander through old bazaars, visit a medieval fort, and shop for crafts hand-made by skilled Rajasthani artisans.
